CAT Eligibility

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA) (It may also referred to as Persons with Disability (PWD) category)], awarded by any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.  The percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in the bachelor’s degree would be calculated based on the practice followed by the university/institution from where the candidate has obtained the degree. In case the candidates are awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of grades/CGPA to percentage of marks would be based on the procedure certified by the university/ institution from where they have obtained the bachelor’s degree. In case the university/ institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing the candidate’s CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result with 100.  Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply.  If selected, such candidates will be allowed to join the programme provisionally, only if he/she submits a certificate latest by June 30, 2012 from the Principal/Registrar of his/her College/Institute (issued on or before June 30, 2012) stating that the candidate has completed all the requirements for obtaining the bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification on the date of the issue of the certificate.  IIMs may verify eligibility at various stages of the selection process, the details of which are provided at the website www.catiim.in. Applicants should note that the mere fulfillment of minimum eligibility criteria will not ensure consideration for shortlisting by IIMs.

Government by its Notification No. ED 205 TEC 2011 dated 20-04-2011 has authorized Karnataka Examinations Authority to conduct Post Graduate Common Entrance Testfor admission to first year/first semester MBA/ MCA/ M.E. / M. Tech / MBA (Infrastructure Management) courses from the year 2011 -12 in the state of Karnataka.

Pursuant to the said notification, applications are invited from the eligible interested Karnataka and non-Karnataka candidates for admission to 1 st year /1 st semester full time / part time MBA/ M.E. / M. Tech. / M. Arch / MBA (Infrastructure Management) courses and full time MCA course in the institutions affiliated to Universities which will be notified by the Government of Karnataka for the year 2011-12. Candidates have to appear for the Post Graduate Common Entrance Test – 2011 conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority to become eligible for admission to these courses. However, the non-Karnataka students are eligible to select only the seats surrendered by the management, if any.
Note: The candidates with valid GATE score need not appear for PGCET-2011 for admission to M.E. / M. Tech / M. Arch. / MBA (Infrastructure Management) courses, but they have to procure and submit the filled application form for admission.
Academic Eligibility: The details of academic eligibility for all the above courses are available on the KEA website http://kea.kar.nic.in/. The candidates are advised to verify the eligibility criteria before applying to any of the courses.
How to Apply?
1.  The candidates have to procure the brochure cum application form by Speed Post only by sending a self addressed cloth-lined envelope of size 25 cm X 30 cm along with the prescribed fee of Rs. 600/- in the form of demand draft drawn in favour of “The Executive Director, Karnataka Examinations Authority“, payable at Bangalore. (Rs. 300/- in case of Karnataka SC, ST and Category-I Candidates)
2.  If a candidate likes to apply for more than one course (eg. for both MBA and MCA) then he / she is required to apply separately by sending two different covers with two different requisite demand drafts each, as the case may be.

As per Government of India’s Gazette Notification No. 44 dated 01.03.1995 issued by Ministry of Human Resources Development (Department of Education), the qualifications acquired by individuals through distance educations mode are recognized for the purpose of employment to posts and services under the Central Government, provided, these have been approved by Distance Education Council (DEC)-Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi and wherever necessary by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi. The technical education programmes, which fall under the purview of AICTE are in the fields of Engineering , Technology including MCA, Architecture, Town Planning, Management, Pharmacy, Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Applied Arts & Crafts and such other programme and areas as notified by the Council from time to time, with the approval of the Government.

It has been the policy of the AICTE, not to recognize the qualifications acquired through distance education mode at Diploma, Bachelors & Master’s level in the fields of Engineering , Technology including MCA, Architecture, Town Planning, Pharmacy, Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Applied Arts & Crafts and Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM). AICTE has the policy to consider only MBA and MCA through distance mode for its recognition. All the existing students / prospective students pursuing/ wanting to pursue any educational programme in the above mentioned fields are hereby advised to check the approval by Joint Committee of DEC, UGC and AICTE on AICTE’s web portal at www.aicte-india.org. Application are invited for admission to the MBA Full Time (2 years) course 2011-12 Eligibility : The candidates must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 60% marks or equivalent CGPA (55% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe), of any of the Universities incorporated in any act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institution established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956 or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent. Such candidates, if selected, will be allowed to join the programme provisionally and will be required to submit the result/Marksheet by 31st July 2011.

Admission Procedure : Candidates applying for MBA are required to have qualified in CAT-2010. The admission to MBA will be on the basis of CAT score, Group discussion/Personal interview. Cutoff percentile and selection criteria in case of tie in CAT score shall be decided by the Institute. Sponsored candidates will be selected through institute test/interview. Any student seeking admission under this category shall be working on a regular post in any Govt./Semi Govt./Public Sector Units/AICTE approved Academic Institutes/Research Organizations/Public Limited Company for a minimum of 02 years, after graduation.
