RBI Young Scholars Award 2011-2012

Reserve Bank of India has invited applications under the ‘RBI Young Scholars Award Scheme’, aimed at encouraging learning about the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) among the youth of the country. This is a major awareness and sensitization exercise on the role of the Reserve Bank and the banking system across the country, which is expected to expose youngsters to an actual banking and financial environment and inculcates in them, a sense of pride of having had the opportunity to associate themselves, with a prestigious organization, the central bank of the country.

Eligibility: Applicant should be of age 18 years or more but less than 23 years as on September 1, 2011, should have completed the 10+2 or its equivalent from recognized Institutions/Boards in 2011 or before and should be currently pursuing their Undergraduate studies. Those who have enrolled for or having acquired Degree(s) higher than Graduation are not eligible. Those who have qualified and worked at RBI as a Young Scholar in any of the previous years are also not eligible to apply.

Number of Scholarships: A maximum of 150 young scholars would be awarded scholarship of which, a maximum of 50 may be selected through a test conducted in English medium and up to a maximum 100, selected on regional basis through a test conducted in vernacular medium.

Placements & Project Assignment: Selected All India candidates and Regional Candidates will be placed at the nearest Regional Office designated for the purpose, depending on the size of the office. They will be required to work within the RBI on Projects/Assignments allocated to them by the respective Regional Director of RBI, which is expected to be completed in a reasonable time, subject to a minimum of 2 months and a maximum of 3 calendar months. During their stint with the RBI, they will be paid a consolidated monthly stipend of Rs.7500/- per head. For broken periods, the amount will be calculated on a pro rata basis.

During their stay with the RBI, the selected scholars who do not have a place to reside at the centre of placement will be assisted with accommodation for the duration of their project. Project Centers include Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla and Thiruvananthapuram

Entrance Examination: The entrance examination will be conducted in English, Hindi and 11 other regional languages - Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu, on January 29, 2012, at Agartala, Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Amrtisar, Anand, Aurangabad, Asansol, Ajmer, Agra, Aligarh, Amravati, Bangalore, Baroda, Bhilai, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Bhagalpur, Bikaner, Bareilly, Bhavnagar, Belgaum, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Cuttack, Cuddapah, Dehradun, Delhi, Dibrugarh, Dharwad, Dharamsala, Ernakulam, Guwahati, Gorakhpur, Gwalior, Gandhinagar, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Hazaribagh, Howrah, Haldwani, Hissar, Imphal, Indore, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Jodhpur, Jalpaiguri, Jamshedpur, Jorhat, Jabalpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Kareemnagar, Kottayam, Kanpur, Kolhapur, Kohima, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Madurai, Mangalore, Mumbai, Mysore, Muzaffarpur, Machhlipatnam, Meerut, Nagpur, Nashik, Nellore, Nadiad, Patna, Port Blair, Panaji, Pune, Raipur, Rajkot, Ranchi, Rourkela, Rajahmundry, Raichur, Shimla, Sambalpur, Silchar, Secunderabad, Salem Satna, Shahdol, Satara, Surat, Siliguri, Shillong, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, Trichi, Tirunelvelli, Thane, Udaipur, Udupi, Varanasi, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Vellore and Warangal. Centres where the number of candidates applying is less than 100 may be merged with some other nearby centres.

The examination of approximately 90 minutes duration will have objective type multiple choices questions related to role and functioning of the RBI, the trend of banking industry in India and general economic and financial environment of the country. All related information including the syllabus for the examination is available at www.rbi.org.in/youngscholars.aspx Candidate is not permitted to use calculator, telephones of any kind, pagers or any other such instruments for the examination.

How to Apply: Application can be submitted online till December 16, 2011, using the link http://www.rbi.org.in/youngscholars.aspx as per the instructions there. There is no fee for application or examination. Applicant should have a valid email ID. After applying online, the registered candidates should obtain a system generated printout of the registered information and preserve the same to enable generation of call letters online.

Call Letter: Call letters for the examination can be downloaded from RBI website on or after January 12, 2012 using Application registration number which will be sent by e-mail to the candidates who provide a valid email-id. Call letters can be downloaded from RBI’s website by entering the registration number & password or date of birth. After downloading the call letter, applicant should paste a recent photograph on the call letter and sign across it before appearing for the examination.

Three copies of the same photograph affixed on the call letter should be retained for use at the time of written examination. Candidates are advised not to change their appearance till the selection process is complete. Failure to produce the same photograph at the time of written test may lead to disqualification. Call letters will not be despatched by post or courier.

Final selection of candidates is subject to his/her being medically fit as per the requirement of the RBI. Selected candidates, at the time of reporting, should submit Attested photocopies of all the certificates in support of educational qualification, date of birth and caste/disability (if any). SC/ST/OBC category should submit an attested copy of their caste certificate issued by the competent authority and also produce original caste certificate / relevant certificates.
